
Lucy Shirley is a composer interested in language and memory. Her works are polystylistic and playful, often focusing on theatricality and aspects of the human voice. Her earliest musical influences come from long car rides listening to Broadway showtunes and classic Americana with her mom, and her current work often focuses on theatricality and the human voice. Her honors include winning the IAWM 2024 Annual Concert Call for Scores, selection in SOLI Chamber Ensemble’s 2024 30x30x30 Project, and a 2022 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award. Her music has been featured in festivals such as June in Buffalo, the Napoleon Electronic Music Festival, the Norfolk New Music Workshop, and HighSCORE Festival in Pavia, Italy. Shirley is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Iowa.
